Elite Brunello and exports: the Poggio degli Ulivi model between Europe and China
Family tradition, direct control of production, and openness to the markets: this is how the Brunello di Montalcino from Tenuta Poggio degli Ulivi in Siena aims for the premium segment.
Poggio degli Ulivi Estate
Excellence in Brunello di Montalcino, from the most suitable terroir in the world.
The estate's 90 hectares include 6 hectares of vineyards planted with Sangiovese Grosso, a typical local clone of the Montalcino area, as well as land used for other traditional crops typical of southern Tuscany, primarily olive groves, arable land, and Mediterranean scrub consisting primarily of juniper, strawberry tree, broom, and tall oak and holm oak forests.
The land extends from the road connecting Sant'Angelo in Colle to Castelnuovo dell'Abate and is spread across a beautiful southern-facing slope, an ideal habitat for the vineyard, which slopes gently from 400 to 200 meters towards the Orcia River.
This enclave, on a plateau overlooking the Val d'Orcia with Mount Amiata on the horizon, has always been considered among the most suitable in the Ilcinese area for growing Sangiovese, given its magnificent position.
Wines from the Poggio degli Ulivi Estate
The Poggio Degli Ulivi estate comprises 6 hectares of vineyards, consisting of Sangiovese Grosso vines, dedicated exclusively to the production of Brunello di Montalcino.
We carefully select the grapes during the harvest, which is personally supervised by members of the Producers' family.
We are assisted by specialized agronomists and oenologists, who work side by side with our staff to select only the best bunches to begin the winemaking process.
Poggio degli Ulivi Estate Cellar
We have small-capacity steel tanks, which we use to begin the initial winemaking process. This process typically lasts 23-25 days, during which the grapes macerate using traditional methods combined with cutting-edge winemaking technology and equipment.
The aging process lasts approximately three years, during which the wine is aged in 25-hectoliter oak barrels. Our Brunello di Montalcino then spends another year in the bottle.
We maintain a controlled temperature in the winemaking environment. We monitor the wine day after day, working with experts who have been working in the wine industry for decades.
